South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
There are chicken wings, and then there are chicken wings! The former are the run-of-the-mill, average, or even less-than-average type that you could really get most anywhere that serves chicken on the menu. You may or may not ever order them again. The latter, though, are truly rare. And there’s an unassuming place to get chicken wings in South Carolina of this type. We couldn’t wait to share it with you.
As soon as you bite into one of these chicken wings, you immediately realize it may just be the best you've ever had. It's juicy, not overcooked and dried out, which is Win #1. Win #2 is that the flavor is just right.
And this is because the process of making these wings is a signature method of the establishment's owner, who has been utilizing his wing-making skills for over two decades. As friends and family tasted his wings, they began begging him to host a "wing fry."
And this is how he became known as "Wing Man," which honestly ... sounds very superhero-ish, don't ya think? He may just very well be the first food superhero ever!
Because it only just opened in October of 2022 and it's located in one of the most unassuming spots possible, an Exxon gas station on West Main Street in Lexington, it's easy to drive right by and not even realize the local gem you're passing.
When you step inside, Wing Man, one of the best restaurants in Lexington, you'll see the menu on a chalkboard to your left. There's a small table with a couple of chairs if you want to eat the wings right there as soon as they're done. But most people order their wings to-go.
Only a couple months after opening, customers were already requesting additional flavors. Wing Man obliged and added two new ones: lemon pepper and teriyaki.
You also can get a side of delicious, homemade ranch for dipping. Call ahead to place your order if you want to avoid a wait, as this is not a fast food joint.
So the next time you’re craving wings or need some great wings for a party … never fear, Wing Man in Lexington is here! And his superpower is extraordinary-tasting chicken wings.
