This Tour Of An Abandoned Wyoming Prison Is An Experience Unlike Any Other
Many people think of Wyoming has a wild, lawless state, but our history shows that we’re just as good as tracking down the outlaws as we are actually being outlaws. The historic Wyoming Frontier Prison is a testament to that, and today, you can tour the eerie prison yourself.

The Prison was constructed in 1893, and continued to hold prisoners until 1981! For 88 years, this impressive and imposing structure held the most violent of Wyoming's convicted criminals.

The Museum is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and tours are offered at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Two executions were carried out using traveling Julien Gallows, and in 1916, a "death house" was constructed. These six cells housed the inmates on death row, and it was also the location of an indoor set of gallows. In 1936, the gas chamber replaced the gallows. 14 men died here - nine were hanged, five were executed in the gas chamber.
