Wyomingites never seem to have trouble finding something to do on a warm summer day, but when you’re looking for something a little off-the-beaten-path or a new adventure to have, it’s always good to check out someplace new! Adventurous Wyomingites will enjoy this Wyoming day trip that involves a short hike to a natural waterfall waterslide and ends the day with a delicious dinner in a historic town. Start off at the Popo Agie Falls Trail just outside of Lander.
The Popo Agie Falls Trail is a 3.3-mile out-and-back trail that will take you to one of the coolest swimming holes in Wyoming!
You can find a trail map and directions right here.
Though the trail is short, be prepared for a little bit of elevation gain and very little shade. The beautiful river views along the way will inspire you to keep going!
Your destination along the trail is the Popo Agie Waterslide! This natural waterslide has been used for generations to drop brave adventurers into a typically chilly swimming hole.
Use your wits — if the usually calm waterfall here is raging after a recent storm, it may be best to wade in from the edges rather than take the plunge. Either way, you'll have a great excuse to jump in and enjoy the water before heading back down the trail!
After you've dried off in the sun and made it back to your car, it's time to treat yourself to one of the best meals you'll ever find in Wyoming. Head to Smokehouse Burgers, less than an hour away in Riverton.
Smokehouse Burgers offers delicious, fall-off-the-bone ribs and the most flavorful pulled pork around. Everything is smothered in their homemade BBQ sauce.
Don't just hop back in the car after your mouthwatering meal — take some time to explore the historic town of Riverton — where you never know what you're going to find!
After a day hike to one of Wyoming’s coolest natural wonders, you’ll be so hungry that a meal at Smokehouse Burgers might be the best meal you’ve ever eaten! Enjoy it — this kind of trip is sure to be a special one.
Smokehouse Burgers is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m to 8 p.m and closed on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Keep that in mind when you’re planning your trip!
