Start your taco journey at Rosa's and Ruben's in Cody. Yep, it's a taco bus, but you can always find it in the same spot on Mountain View Drive. The prices are great, the portions are generous, and the carnitas tacos are authentic heaven.

The menu at Las Fuentes in Thermopolis is fresh and made from scratch; even the refried beans are obviously homemade. When you're craving tacos, this is the place locals will direct you to. Everything is great, but the chicken tacos are a special treat.

This taco bus has one of the best locations in the state. If you're in Teton Village, either staying long-term or just for the day, it's right where you need it to be when the munchies strike. The salsa and guacamole is homemade and super-delicious, and the taco menu is to die. Choose from chicken, pork, beef, fish - or have one of each. You won't be disappointed.

Wilson is near Teton Village and Jackson Hole, but it doesn't get as many tourists and visitors as the neighboring towns do. That's a shame, because if you skip Wilson you're missing out on some of the best tacos in the state. Although their menu is not strictly Mexican, the "Taste of Mexico" section offers tacos ala carte or in orders of three, and you can choose from carne asada, el pastor, chicken tinga, and mahi mahi, all garnished with fresh pico, cilantro, and wedges of lime. It's all served up with Mexican slaw on the side.

There's more than one place in Jackson to find really great tacos, but Taqueria Sanchez is on a little back street off the main square, so you might not stumble across it if you're simply passing through town. What's really great about the tacos here in addition to the mouth-watering authentic taste is that everything is ultra-fresh, and the portions are big. Whether you order the beef cheek tacos or another variety, your tortillas will be stuffed to overflowing with the filling of your choice.

Over and over, after eating at Juan's, people are amazed that such great Mexican food can be found in the little town of Thayne and, of course, that includes the tacos. Barbacoa, al pastor, fish tacos, or your basic chicken or beef tacos are all available here, plus you'll have your choice of salsa with different levels of heat.

While other restaurants experiment with stuffing different types of meat into taco shells, Rose's has perfected the basic crisp-shell beef taco. It's one of the many traditional Mexican dishes on the menu that consistently gets rated "fabulous."

People come from far and wide for the tacos at Lira's, some even boasting that it's been a favorite for 15 years or more. The tacos here not only taste great, but they're also made a little differently. Lira's makes their own hard shells by frying flour tortillas, then they stuff them full of beef, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and salsa.

This family-run establishment claims to have the best soft shell tacos and it must be true - Tacos Mexico has the distinction of being proclaimed the best Mexican restaurant in the state by contributors on various rating sites. You could always order traditional beef, chicken, or pork tacos, but the shrimp tacos are highly recommended, in addition to the flautas - flour shell tacos that are rolled and deep fried.

For great Mexican food anywhere near Rock Springs, this is where people come. Don't be disappointed when your al pastor or asada tacos seem a bit plain when the waitress delivers them. Super Tortas sports a salsa and fixin's bar so you can dress them up however you want.

To some, as a fast food franchise, Taco John's might not seem to fit on a "best-of" list. However, considering this particular chain got its start in Cheyenne, we feel it at least deserves honorable mention. When you need a quick taco fix that actually tastes good, you can't beat a six pack and a pound (Taco John's special that pairs six tacos and a pound of their signature tater-tot-like side for one low price). There are actually five Taco John's locations in Cheyenne, so tacos are always nearby when you're in this Wyoming town.
