The aptly named town of Green River is home to, well, the Green River, and it was made famous when it became the starting point for the 1869 exploratory expedition by geologist John Wesley Powell, who ended up paddling his way down the Colorado River, and into the Grand Canyon. The town itself was founded in 1868, and today it is home to about 13,000 residents who enjoy the quiet, small-town life on the Wyoming-Utah border.
