While hiking through Wyoming is the preferred way to explore the state for many people, others find it easier to take in the sights from a UTV. You’ll see more of the mountains and save a whole lot of time and energy when you hit the trails on an all-terrain vehicle that’s a blast to drive. You don’t have to invest much to get out there and have fun – just rent a UTV from Treads N Trails in Cody and hit the road!
Wyoming's Bighorn Basin is a wide, flat valley between the Absaroka, Beartooth, Bighorn, Pryor, Owl Creek, and Bridger Mountains in the northern half of the state.
This region is known as a high and dry desert, and the towns of Thermopolis, Cody, Powell, and Worland make up the biggest communities.
The unique geography of the basin means it's a high elevation valley completely surrounded by mountains, creating stunning scenery that's unlike any other place on Earth.
If you want to get out and explore the forest, mountain, and prairie trails around the basin, rent a UTV from Tread N Trails, an adventure outfitter in the town of Cody.
Rentals start at $229 for a half-day trip and $319 for a full-day excursion. You can choose to upgrade your UTV for an additional charge to get the most out of your adventure.
You'll have access to seemingly endless trails right from the door - or, you can have Tread N Trails trailer you out to some more unique spots, including the ghost town of Kirwin.
Did you know that the Pryor Mountains, just north of Cody, are home to dozens of wild horses? Bring binoculars with you so that you can give them some space while you're out exploring.
For more information about renting UTVs from Treads N Trails, visit their website here. Their rental season typically runs from mid-May through mid-September, but you’ll want to make a reservation online soon, in case their calendar fills up!
