Wyoming is a great place to grow up. The wide open spaces give kids ample room to play and explore. Wherever you live, there’s a state or national park nearby and at least one ski resort where youngsters can master skiing, the state sport after rodeo.
What’s more, the schools in the Cowboy State are among the top in the country. If you’re looking for the best school district to settle down in, you can’t do better than Sheridan County School District #2. It was just named the best in all of Wyoming.
Sheridan County up near the Wyoming/Montana border is home to the best school district in the state: Sheridan County School District #2.
It's not the largest county in Wyoming. It only has three districts within its boundaries...
...and Sheridan County School District #2 happens to be located in the county seat - Sheridan, Wyoming.
There are 10 schools in District #2, including six elementary schools, a middle school, a junior high school, and a senior high school.
The Sheridan School District also has a collaborative school - a high school alternative for students who learn better in non-traditional educational environments. Offering this option is just one reason why District #2 is at the top of the list.
There are less than 3,400 students in the entire district. That means more one-on-one attention from teachers to ensure District #2 students excel in all areas of academics.
Sheridan School District #2 students blow kids from other states away, testing out with a 67 percent proficiency in math, as compared to the national average of just over 32 percent. They more than double the national average in reading, as well, with a proficiency of 70 percent while the rest of the country is averaging 34.8 percent.
Plus, the majority of all those scholarly students stay in high school and see it through to the end. While the national average graduation rate is at 83 percent, Sheridan School District #2 proudly tops that statistic, too, with an 85 percent graduation rate.
School sports don't typically play a part in rating school districts, but with an awesome athletics department that boasts winning teams year after year, it's worth a mention.
The Sheridan Broncs football team was 12 and 0 this year, handily taking the state 4A title for the third year in a row, making 26 total state titles in all. The basketball team has their eye on a championship, too, with 25 wins so far and no losses.
Looking at the Sheridan County school district, it’s easy to see Why Wyoming Was Named One Of The States With The Best Schools In The Country .
