Atmosphere is just as important to the dining experience as the food, and cozy is the keyword for restaurants right now. When in Wyoming, you’ll find the homiest, most inviting spot to eat right in Yellowstone National Park.
The Old Faithful Inn Dining Room was actually named the coziest restaurant in the state , and if you’ve ever eaten there, you’ll know why. Set in the heart of the nation’s first national park and just steps away from one of the most famous natural attractions in the country, this welcoming dining hall couldn’t be any more comfortable and pleasant if it were in your grandmother’s own cabin.
Comfortable, inviting, rustic...the Old Faithful Inn is certainly all of these.
The inn is within walking distance of its namesake geyser and is a national historic landmark.
So, it's only natural that the restaurant inside would be just as cozy. The Old Faithful Inn Dining Room pulls off the amazing feat of providing an intimate, informal feel even though it's located on the spacious, open first floor.
Built in a style that's known as "parkitecture," everything is wood and logs and natural stone.
The furnishings fit right in with the rustic theme, practically calling out for you to take a seat and enjoy a home-cooked meal.
And the views are grand. Not only do the windows look out on the dining room's patio and the gorgeous national park beyond...
...but simply looking up treats you to a view of the spectacular log architecture towering four stories above.
The menu is filled with Wyoming-style comfort foods that enhance the cozy feel. Try the trout cakes, made with Wyoming-raised trout...
...or the bison burger made with meat from a local bison ranch.
You can order elk sausage to accompany your mac and cheese...
...or opt for the salmon special.
Even pot roast isn't just pot roast at this restaurant. Made with lean bison meat, served atop silky mashed potatoes and garnished with crispy fried onions and flavorful gravy, you might not be able to go back to plain old beef roast.
However, the prime rib of beef is a delicious alternative for those with a more traditional palate.
Naturally, the coziest restaurant in the state has a full menu of lip-smacking desserts including croissant bread pudding, vanilla bean cheesecake, a to-die-for molten truffle torte, and one-of-a-kind fruit cobblers like this huckleberry-pineapple concoction.
You don't even need reservations or have to be a guest at Old Faithful Inn to dine here, but if you've booked a room, you can make reservations up to a year in advance as part of your lodging arrangements.
A good chunk of the park closes down over the winter, and the facilities at the inn are included. However, you can plan on eating at this cozy restaurant anytime between early May and October. Though they have a comparatively short season, they make up for it with long hours: 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
