If you’ve been to Yellowstone, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with Old Faithful Inn. But, there’s something a little unusual about the interior of this historic inn that you may not be aware of. The inn is home to a very unique indoor treehouse that currently very few visitors get to explore.
This indoor treehouse is known as the Crow's Nest. It was designed by architect, Robert Reamer, when he was 29 years old. The reason there is no other one like it in the world is because the design was based on his very own personal childhood fantasy.
On the third floor, there is a stairway with a locked gate that leads 76' up into the atrium. Sadly, Crow's Nest was closed to the general public initially due to an earthquake in 1959 that damaged the structure of the Old Faithful Inn. Since then, repairs have been made but it is still closed due to fire escape code restrictions. However, some of the staff ventures to the top twice a day to raise and lower the park's flags and will typically take one family a night if reservations are made in advance.
If you are one of the lucky ones to take this rare trip up into Crow's Nest, the guide will tell you the history of the building as you ascend the stairs. At the top of the stairs, you will find a magical treehouse located at the top of the atrium. Before the earthquake, an orchestra would perform from the treehouse and entertain guests down below.
To top this rare trip off, you get to hang out on the rooftop long enough to see Old Faithful erupt from a bird's eye view.

Not only is this Wyoming attraction like no other in the world, it is also one that very few people get to experience which makes it even that much more unique.
