What climbing grade is Grand Teton?
Grand Teton is one of the most popular climbing destinations in the United States. Located in Wyoming, the peak stands at an impressive 13,775 feet tall. For perspective, that is over two and a half miles high! The Exum Ridge and Owen Spalding Route are considered the easiest routes to the top. They are rated as Class 5.5 and 5.4 respectively on the Yosemite Decimal System. This means that they fall in the intermediate difficulty range, but are still within the ability of experienced climbers. However, beginner climbers may find it to be challenging.
In addition to the physical demands of the climb, would-be summiteers also need to be prepared for altitudes above 12,000 feet. Those who are not used to climbing at high altitudes may start to experience symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headache, nausea, and vomiting. For these reasons, it is important to be properly prepared before attempting to climb Grand Teton.
