A medical community once formed in Thermopolis in the early 19th century. Patients would come to the hot springs in hopes that the water would heal all of their medical conditions.
The area was purchased from the Arapaho and Shoshone in a treaty in 1896. The agreement was that it would remain accessible to the public free of charge.
Not only is there an outdoor pool but there is also an indoor pool. The water in the indoor pool hovers at a therapeutic 104º.
The indoor pool is located within the State Bath House. The State Bath House is free of charge.

The park is accessible for day use only. The hours are Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5:30 p.m.
