Undoubtedly, every state is full of towns to visit that feel like quintessential spots to soak up local vibes. And, luckily for us, Wyoming has tons. From those that offer great food to the ones with great local restaurants and shopping, there are many places to visit here to make you feel at home. Now that you’re excited to start exploring some gems, consider checking out these charming small towns in Wyoming.
Located at the bottom of the Big Horn Mountains, this little town is a beauty. However, we love it for more reasons than just the natural surroundings. The main street is filled with history, including the Jim Gatchell Museum. Obviously, this is a great day trip. But, choose to stay overnight and you have the chance to enjoy the Occidental Hotel, also on the main street.
Certainly one of the most beautiful communities in the state, Story is located beneath the Big Horn Mountains. Further, it offers a lovely day exploring north central Wyoming! Although it may not be convenient for everyone, the arts scene and the nearby wildlife are worth the trip. For this reason, we recommend putting this little town at the top of your list.
Lovell is an especially lovely town in northwestern Wyoming. Known as the "rose town of Wyoming," you'll find beautiful roses growing throughout the community. In addition, the history and small population of about 2,400 make this a charming spot to visit as you explore the state.
While the name of this town is surely lovely, a visit is even better. The progressive town of about 1,200 people sits in the Black Hills of eastern Wyoming. Additionally, it offers lots of history. Interestingly, the name of the town is derived from the Native American sun dances once performed here. And, the Sundance Kid spent a night in the jailhouse here, earning himself his infamous nickname.
Despite the population being small (just 100 people!), this community is big on charm. You'll find Bondurant in the Hoback Basin. Another great benefit is that the town is surrounded by the Gros Ventre Wilderness area, where visitors have the chance to truly soak up the beauty of the state.
Afton is home to a unique claim to fame, the largest arch made of elk antlers! But, even if that's not impressive to you, there's plenty to love here. Unquestionably, visitors will feel like they've stepped into the wild west from the moment they enter.
With its picturesque views of the Snowy Range Mountains, it's easy to love little Centennial. After originally being home to the Plains Indians, settlers arrived in search of gold. When they found it, mines were built and a small community came to exist. Today, the town is adorable! Plan to visit, but first check out some of the great dining and shopping options.
All in all, little Dubois has a lot to offer! You'll find it at the edge of Wind River, but it offers additional beauty in the form of the Wind River mountains and the Absarokas. If you visit you'll find everything you need, which might be why so many artists, craftspeople, outfitters and ranchers call the town home.
