Wyoming is a state full of small towns. We’re the least populated state, and honestly, that makes no sense to me at all. All it takes is a drive through our scenic mountains and our charming small towns to fall in love with the Cowboy State. If you’re looking for some quiet and relaxing fun, visit one of the smallest towns around. Every town on the list below is home to fewer than 500 year round residents, but each little slice of heaven is so worth visiting.
Chugwater is a charming little town with a macabre story behind it. The town was named after the sound a herd of bison made after falling off of a cliff into the water below. Today, Chugwater is best known for being home to the oldest soda fountain in the state and their famous Chugwater Chili.
Most people write Atlantic City off as a ghost town before they visit. One you're here, though, you'll find a lot of life around! Visit the Merc or the Miner's Grubsteak for an amazing meal and some great company.
Kaycee is a tiny and sleepy western town that rose to fame in the Outlaw days. You'll find the most famous outlaw hideout in the world, the Hole in the Wall, in these mountains.
Medicine Bow is the small town with a big history. Visit to see the famous Virginian hotel and the "oldest building in the world" which is a cabin made of dinosaur bones.
South Pass City is part town, part historic mining district. You'll find a handful of people who still live out here and dedicate themselves to preserving history. Thanks to their efforts, you can even tour the original Carissa Mine!
Hulett only has a year-round population of 383, but thanks to its location near Devils Tower, you'll find a lot to do here. Try the pizza at the R Deli or enjoy a meal at the quirky Ponderosa Cafe.
Hudson is a small mining town that feels like a big city compared to the rest on the list! Even though there are fewer than 500 people who call Hudson home, they're just about the luckiest people in the state. Downtown, you'll find Svilar's Steakhouse, the best steakhouse in Wyoming.
Thayne is a beautiful Star Valley Town that's frequently overlooked on the way to the Parks. Stop by to see what small town life is really like and enjoy a hearty breakfast at the Wagon Wheel Cafe.
Ten Sleep is a destination for anyone who loves the outdoors. Thanks to its location at the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains, the year-round population of 260 people frequently mingles with hikers, climbers, fly fishers, and campers.
