When it comes to planning your next Wyoming vacation, take a look at one of our beautiful and underrated small towns. Each one is packed with charm, history, and things to do!
1. Pinedale
While everyone is getting crowded out of the Tetons and Jackson, head to the Wind River Range and stay in Pinedale. This little town's motto is "All the civilization you need," and it couldn't be any more true!
2. Buffalo
Buffalo may be the most charming mountain town in the state. Come walk through the downtown district, dine at the Busy Bee Cafe (yes, the one from Longmire!) and stay the weekend at the historic and haunted Occidental Hotel.
3. Sheridan
Sheridan is located in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountain range, and it's a great place to stay if you're planning to explore the mountains and the Badlands, as it provides easy access to both. Don't forget to spend some time at the Mint Bar!
4. Green River
Green River is a great town if you're looking for fun in Southern Wyoming! Use it as your home base for exploring the Flaming Gorge area, or bring your whitewater kayaks and recreate history at the Green River Whitewater Park, located near Expedition Island.
5. Thermopolis
Thermopolis is a unique town - the county seat of Hot Springs County. This tiny town that's seemingly in the middle of nowhere has become quite the hot destination... thanks to its thermal activity! For decades, travelers have been stopping in to relax in the natural mineral hot spring here. It's the largest in the world and you've got to see it! Plus, Thermopolis is the dinosaur capital of the state, and you'll love browsing the Wyoming Dinosaur Center. You can even go out for a live dig!
6. Hulett
Hulett is an out-of-this-world destination - or, at least, you'll think so when you visit Devils Tower! This strange monolith was made famous in the sci-fi flick "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." Today, the town is known as the gateway to the Badlands in Wyoming.
7. Sundance
Sundance is another Badlands town that's often completely overlooked. This historic spot was where Sundance Kid earned his nickname! Visit to step back in time to the Wild West.
