Wyomingites are lucky to live so close to the wilderness. In more crowded parts of the country, small county parks with paved walking paths are the closest people can get to nature without planning an entire weekend away. Out here, though, we can enjoy a mountain hike on a whim, or head to one of the most beautiful lakes around to cool off on a hot summer day.
Shoshone National Forest is home to dozens of lakes, and Silas Lake is one that's truly worthy of a day hike adventure.
You'll be rewarded with one of the most beautiful views in Wyoming after just a few miles of trekking along clear trails - the stunning Silas Lake! Wade in the chilly mountain water to cool off, or cast a line and catch some dinner.
The trails are typically clear, and you'll pass thousands of beautiful wildflowers. Be sure to bring bug spray, as the mosquitos can be out in full force.
