If you’re in Wyoming and want really great Cajun food, you’re going to have to travel for it – but maybe not as far as you’d think. There’s a charming little steakhouse just off WY-120 East that serves up crave-worthy Cajun cuisine that is the best you’ll find west of the Mississippi.
Practically in the middle of nowhere, it’s not close to much of anything, other than Monster Lake. The remote location makes it unlikely that you’ll accidentally find this Southern food gem, but the unexpected menu and over-the-top fare make it well worth the trip once you know where it is. At least you don’t have to go all the way to Louisiana!
Restaurant Bliss is probably the best-kept secret in Wyoming.
Bliss is the restaurant at Monster Lake Ranch, an event center and guest ranch that draws visitors from near and far for the hunting, fishing, and horseback riding it offers in the spectacular wilds of Wyoming. As more people discover Restaurant Bliss, however, more are visiting the ranch for the food alone.
South of Cody and north of Meeteetse, it's essentially in the middle of nowhere.
Set up in an old barn, you wouldn't even know there's a fine dining establishment behind the seemingly ordinary door.
The atmosphere inside is brimming with personality, offering comfortable places to sit and have a drink...
...as well as enjoy your meal.
The management utilized the old barn stalls inventively...
...creating cozy little alcoves for a bit of privacy while dining.
The Old West décor is enchanting, but the food is really what you come for when you travel this far out of your way, and Restaurant Bliss doesn't disappoint. The extensive menu includes steaks, seafood, and pasta...
...but they specialize in Cajun favorites such as Boudin Balls...
You'll think you've died and gone to Cajun heaven when you bite into these breaded sausage bites dipped in Creole mustard sauce.
...New Orleans-style shrimp 'n' grits...
...and Louisiana fried oysters with spicy sriracha aioli.
Other Cajun delicacies you'll find on the menu include gumbo, crawfish etouffee, and red snapper served with a creamy crawfish and crab sauce.
Plus, what Southern-style meal would be complete without heavenly bread pudding swimming in bourbon sauce?
Restaurant Bliss is open Thursday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., making it the perfect destination for an end-of-the-week evening out.
