Let’s face it. Just about everything is out in the boonies in Wyoming. Here are some places that aren’t the most convenient to get to but are so worth the extra effort. After all, we’re used to long drives.
If you're looking for some rest and relaxation, then Granite Hot Springs is worth the adventure. This thermal pool, ranging in temperature from 93º to 112º, offers beautiful views of the surrounding Bridger-Teton National Forest. The spring is located on the side of a mountain so the road up is rough. Granite Hot Springs is located 34 miles southeast of Jackson and is only accessible in the winter via dogsled, snowmobile or skiing.
Killpecker Sand Dunes consists of thousands of acres of a sandy playground. Located north of Rock Springs, the beautiful dunes are perfect for ATVing, surfing on a sled or skis and even hiking. From the dunes, you will witness the most beautiful sunset you've ever seen.

The Chapel of the Transfiguration is the most serene and peaceful place you will ever visit. The quaint little log chapel was built so that the window behind the altar frames a view of the Cathedral Group of peaks. The chapel sits just on the rise just inside the southern entrance of Grand Teton National Park.

This abandoned mansion is so unusual that it's definitely worth checking out. This is located along the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway just outside of Yellowstone National Park. The mansion was built by Lee Smith who was very passionate about building this house. He didn't go by any blueprints but just built what felt right to him at the time. Unfortunately, it was his passion that eventually killed him. He fell 12 feet to his death while working on the house.

To get to the most unusual landscape you'll ever see, take a drive out to Hell's Half Acre. This is a vast 300 acre canyon with an amazing landscape. The landscape was originally used by Native Americans to drive buffalo off the cliffs. Most recently, it was used as the setting for Starship Troopers. Hell's Half Acre is located about 40 miles west of Casper.
Everybody needs to visit a ghost town at least once in their lifetime. Once a thriving corporate mining town, Jeffrey City now sits desolate. Jeffrey City is located in Fremont County in Central Wyoming. The drive is long, stark and desolate but very worthwhile if you want to see an authentic ghost town.
Register Cliff is a guest book for those who were traveling west. Travelers would inscribe their name on the face of the rock. This is such a unique living record of those who traveled along the Oregon Trail. Register Cliff is located just outside of Guernsey.
You know you've always wanted to see a remote outlaw hideout. Hole-in-the-Wall is one of the most famous hideouts of such outlaws as Jesse James, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. This area is a remote pass in the Big Horn Mountains located on Willow Creek Ranch. The hideout is remote, secluded and hard to reach.

As far as a town that's out in the boonies, be sure to take a drive to Dubois. This is an easy drive but well off the beaten path. This is such a beautiful little town where you will still find the real West.
