It can be hard to find a quick, quiet hike in Wyoming. It seems like the shortest scenic trails are mobbed with tourists, and the longer trails can take all day to reach their payoff. Luckily, if you know where to look, you can find a short stroll that’s perfect for a picnic on the next nice day.

Between Alpine and Hoback, along the Snake River, you can find a tiny little trail that's the perfect place for a lunchtime stroll.

Head down this short trail of switchbacks that will take you to the Snake River, where you'll be able to sit down and catch one heck of a view.

You'll have an amazing view of kayakers tacking the famous Lunch Counter and Big Kahula rapids below.

The trail is very well maintained and less than a quarter mile from the parking area to the river, but you'll still have beautiful views to take in.

When you get down to the water, choose a spot along the big, flat, rocky shoreline to lay out your picnic blanket and have a riverside meal.

The rapids are wild for most of the year, and the bravest nautical acrobats put on quite a show here! You'll love watching them navigate these tricky, famous rapids.
