Did you grow up in Wyoming? Have you spent years here? If you consider yourself a true Wyomingite, you’ll find yourself relating to all of these experiences. While we say they’ve happened at least once in your life, chances are, these are regular occurrences. How many can you check off?
1. Lost a fight with the Wyoming wind.
Whether a gust blew your hat away, papers out of your hand, your car door onto your hand, or just plain knocked you over—we've all been humbled by the wind more times than we can count.
2. Waited for wildlife to clear the road.
Yellowstone's bison and bear jams are famous, but goats and other critters tend to block traffic throughout the state. It's always a good excuse for being late.
3. Attended a rodeo.
It isn't called the Cowboy State for nothing! We don't go out to the movies here—our entertainment is live and bucking across the ring.
4. Went for a ride on horseback.
For a lot of us, riding is a way of life. For the rest of us, we've at least enjoyed pony rides or trail rides with friends!
5. Got caught off-guard by a springtime or summertime snowfall.
Come on, Mother Nature. We're cool with snow all winter long—but please, could you stop dumping flurries on us in the summer? The weather turns so quickly on the mountain prairie that it can be hard to predict.
6. Hit the slopes during an expected snowfall.
Nothing beats skiing on fresh powder, and in Wyoming, there is always plenty of it to shred up. Whether you're a novice on skis or you spend every winter skinning the Burned Gulch, there's a slope in our state that's calling your name.
7. Debated whether elk or bison make better burgers.
While there is plenty of beef in Wyoming, it's common to also have other local game on the menu. If you run into someone who has a strong preference for elk or bison, they'll be sure to let you know.
8. Slept under the stars.
Camping out under a dark sky is a rite of passage in Wyoming.
9. Had it out with a mule deer.
We've all had our run-ins with mule deer on the road. Most of the time we're lucky to come away unscathed, but after a couple of close encounters, it becomes a habit to scan the bar ditch for deer when traveling during peak season.
