Every true Wyomingite has lived a life that’s a lot different than most Americans. Out here in the high prairie and Rocky Mountains, life is unique. Here are a few things that may have happened to you that were stranger than fiction.

1. Almost hit something that wasn't a pronghorn.

Was that a bison? Could it have been an elk? Sure, we dodge pronghorn and mule deer all the time, but it's the bigger game that throw us off.
2. Misinterpreted a dress code.

Sorry, I wear my barn boots everywhere, and kind of forgot that Aunt Millie's funeral was a mud-free event.
3. Almost got blown off a mountain... or a sidewalk.

The sidewalk thing is a lot less scary than almost getting blown off the trail when you're a few hundred feet up in the air.

This isn't nearly as common as it used to be, but it's still something that happens in Wyoming. If you tried to ride a horse into town in New Jersey, I'm pretty sure you'd get pulled over!
5. Traveled to a place where people lock their doors.

I actually never had a key to my first apartment and didn't really think twice about it. It's hard to get into the habit of locking your doors when you've moved to a place where you have to!
6. Assumed out-of-state restaurants would have elk or bison on the menu.

Apparently you have to really search for "exotic game" when you're on the east coast. In Wyoming, they're kind of a given.
7. Changed up your fishing plans because of unexpected weather.
