Looking for breathtaking views far from the National Parks crowds? Take a breezy hike up to Bonneville Pass in the DuNoir region and you’ll find yourself falling in love with wild Wyoming scenery.
The DuNoir Trail up to Bonneville Pass is one of the most beautiful hikes you can take in Wyoming.
This out-and-back hike is just over five miles and it's tucked away in the Dunoir Management Area, a wilderness within Shoshone National Forest.
The hike is best known for its wildflowers and breathtaking views.
Once the snow melts and the flowers begin to bloom, it turns into a paradise! Wildflowers peak mid-summer, but the trail is gorgeous from June through September.
You'll be treated to up-close views of the Wind River Range along the way.
Unlike many hikes in the Winds, you'll have less than 900 feet of elevation gain, making this a fairly easy hike for most people who are in moderate shape. Due to the length and some steep parts, it's not the easiest hike in the state, but it shouldn't take you more than 2.5 or 3 hours, excluding time to stop for lunch.
Stream crossings are a notable feature of the DuNoir trail. They'll be quicker and deeper earlier in the year, but not usually terribly tricky to hop over.
Bring trekking poles and waterproof boots to help you navigate the waters!
Be sure to carry bear spray, hike in a group, tell someone where you'll be and share your hiking plan. In addition, keep our wilderness pristine by leaving no trace of your visit.
It's unlikely that you'll see anyone else on the trail. It's one of the least-trafficked treks and is a bit of a local secret.
This scenic trail stands out for a lot of reasons, and it's sure to leave you staring in awe as you turn every corner and encounter a gorgeous scene laid out in front of you.
