Whether you’re visiting one of Wyoming’s national parks or one of its little towns, the Visitors Center is always a great place to start. Stocked with information and friendly faces, these places can make your trip run smoothly. Not all Visitors Centers are created equally, however, There’s one in Wyoming that’s particularly unique:
The next time you visit Grand Tetons National Park, a stop at the Craig Thomas Discovery & Visitor Center is a must. You'll find it at 1 Teton Park Rd., Moose, WY 83012.
Even before you walk through the door, you'll see that this visitor center is something special. The outdoor sculptures are innovative and interesting, and you'll quickly find that this place combines art, science, and natural beauty to represent the park in a unique way.
If you're stopping by right before a day trip into the park, you'll want to have the most updated information on the weather conditions, so make sure to check the weather board. Conditions at the park can change very quickly, and you'll want to be prepared.
The theme at the visitor center is "Place, People, and Preservation," and it's echoed throughout the building through some beautiful art work and displays.
Learn about ways that you can help conserve the park's natural beauty during your visit through the displays you'll find all through the center. You'll find everything from beautiful dioramas to a high-tech video river installed on the floor.
You'll be drawn to the large topographical map that shows you the layout of the park. Get a feeling for just how prominent the Teton Range really is on the landscape here!
Before you head out, catch a demonstration from a park ranger, and learn how to stay safe while you enjoy the park. Bear safety is just one of many presentations offered by the knowledgeable rangers who live and work here.
