Sometimes when you’re out in nature it’s easy to get a little spooked. After all, you’re far away from other people, which can be unnerving. Who knows what’s out there? Serial killers, dangerous animals … ghosts?

In fact, one mountain in Wyoming actually is rumored to be home to spirit activity: the aptly named Spirit Mountain, aka Cedar Mountain.

Cedar Mountain is an absolutely beautiful mountain near Cody, Wyoming that's popular with hikers, climbers, and nature enthusiasts.

It has an elevation of 7,890 feet, which is pretty darn tall.
But Cedar Mountain isn't just known for its beauty. It also has a bit of a creepy reputation.

Cedar Mountain's other name is Spirit Mountain for a reason: People believe the ghosts of people who died on the mountain have remained on the mountain.
There is a whole cavern system, once known as Spirit Cave, underneath the mountain. It used to be a national monument, but isn't any more.

People say you can still hear the footsteps of people who have died in these caves and canyons.

There is a gravestone along one of the hikes, which certainly adds to the spooky ambiance. No word on if he's one of the mountain's eternal residents.
Still, others claim the mountain is actually a site for "little people."

"Little people" appear in many Native American legends. They're smaller, devil-like creatures that don't like to associate with humans.
But again, these are all just the legends of Spirit Mountain. Sure, it's kind of spooky, but it's also just a really beautiful mountain to hike!
