Living in Wyoming is unlike living anywhere else in the world. Our quiet, peaceful state is at the same time loud and rowdy. We can be completely alone, yet completely surrounded by wildlife. We’re born knowing how to treat our guests and our priorities are family, health and happiness over wealth and power. If you feel like you truly belong in Wyoming, see if the signs have been there since you were young.
Wyomingites love to hunt and shoot! We've got more guns per capita than any other state in America, and from a young age, we're taught how to handle our rifles.
Wyoming is the second least dense state in the country, behind Alaska. We're the least populated state, though, with just under 600,000 residents. When you live in Wyoming, you get used to your peace and quiet.
Food portions in Wyoming are pretty big because we can really eat. When a 12 oz steak is the standard and baked potatoes are the size of a brick and we still clear the plate... well, that's something to brag about.
Everything is far away, unless you're in town, so we get used to driving miles and miles when we have to run some errands. It's just another way to see the scenery of our state, though, so we don't mind.
5. The thought of Times Square and New York City makes you want to puke.
All that traffic, those crowded sidewalks, and all that noise? No, thank you! Even our busiest city is a ghost town compared to the Big Apple, and we love it that way.
6. You don't really get the appeal of the beach, either.
Sure, the ocean is wild and endless... but so is the trash. And, again, the crowds! Give me an alpine lake or one of our rivers any time over a crowded, polluted beach.
If you're a hiker in Wyoming, you'll end up tackling trails that seem outrageous to everyone else. To us, though, they're easy! Sure, AllTrails has half of them marked as "difficult", but to us, they're our normal everyday excursions.
One of the most amusing things about living in Wyoming is spotting the fake Cowboys. They'll be wearing black felt hats in the middle of summer, Justin boots that haven't broken in yet, and a bolo tie for whatever reason. All it takes is a little bit of research to find out that we don't actually dress like the Hollywood caricature of a cowboy.
Everyone loves snow when they're kids, because it means a day off from school! Wyomingites carry that love into their adulthood, though, and never really mind waiting for the road to clear or heading out in the middle of a storm.
When you can't talk to the person next to you without screaming, you almost lose your footing a dozen times, and you've got to dodge random things flying your way... that's how you know you're at home.
Mountain pass commutes and dizzying hikes mean that elevation doesn't even begin to intimidate you. And hey, it's not like the fall will kill you... it's more practical to be afraid of the ground.
Fresh cutthroat trout is a gourmet meal in Wyoming, when you've caught it and cooked it up yourself! Beyond fish, there's nothing quite like wild game chili or fresh jerky. When you catch and hunt your own food, you're really doing yourself a favor when it comes to flavor.
