The American Frontier was a gritty, sun-scorched expanse of land that promised bold adventurers the lifestyle and capital of their wildest dreams. Much of the West was used, and is still being used, for mining; gold, copper, lead, and coal were found in excess. Today, coal mining is a shrinking industry, but vestiges of the industry’s heyday still remain like ghosts on the edge of civilization.
The Aladdin Coal Tipple is one of the last remaining structures of its time, dating back to at least 1898.
When production was booming, Aladdin had a population of around 500, which was significant for the time and place.
It was one of the last of its kind once the nearby railroad was shut down, and put up a good fight until the end.
The population now is around 15, and the mine has long since been shut down.
However, the coal tipple still stands, not without structural support / rebuilding from local preservationists.
Visitors will also be able to see the defunct entrance to the mine, as well as the hoist house.
The tipple stands tall, jutting forth from the rock face, reminding those who pass by of a bygone era.
The area where the tipple is located is fenced off by barbed wire in order to protect both visitors and the historic structure.

One warning sign indicates that the coal tipple is in “imminent danger” of collapse; there is only so much that preservationists can do, and we are fortunate to have this piece of quickly-disappearing history still standing today, for however long it continues to hold.
It is free to visit the Aladdin Coal Tipple , which is located in Aladdin, Wyoming, just off of WY-24. Have fun on your journey of westward expansion!
