Just like any other state, Wisconsin has its fair share of roadside oddities and attractions. However, unlike most states, Wisconsin is home to a plethora of the “world’s largest” sites. From gigantic beers to colossal creatures, Wisconsin is full of quirky sites that are sure to make a big impression.
1. World’s Largest Six-Pack
Built in the 1960s, this larger-than-life six-pack is more than just eye candy for hops lovers. The "cans" are actually brewery tanks, which have (fittingly) been wallpapered to look like beers. So, how much beer does the giant six-pack contain? There’s a total of 688,200 gallons of beer inside the tanks, which equals more than 1 million regular size six-packs!
Address: 3rd St S, La Crosse, WI 54601
2. World’s Largest Muskie
How many people do you think it took to reel in this muskie, which is a whopping 143 feet long! This enormous fish can be found at the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward, which is a popular site all on its own – about 100,000 people visit the museum each year.
Address: 10360 Hall of Fame Dr, Hayward, WI 54843
3. World’s Tallest Grandfather Clock
Built in 1976, this enormous, functioning timepiece stands at 35’ 10" tall. The clock was moved to its current location in 2014, while the surrounding pavilion roofs were added in 2015. Aside from the pavilion roofs, 2015 brought about another addition – a sound system, which chimes along with seasonal music.
Address: 322 Milwaukee St, Kewaunee, WI 54216
4. World’s Largest Penny
Located in a Woodruff park, this huge penny weighs 17,000 pounds, is about 15 feet in height and about a foot thick. In addition to its definite wow factor, the penny has some sentimental value. It was built in honor of Dr. Kate Pelham, who, decades ago, encouraged area school children to collect 1,000,000 pennies to fund the construction of a new hospital.
Address: 820 3rd Ave, Woodruff, WI 54568
5. World’s Largest Mustard Collection
Started in 1886, the National Mustard Museum now houses more than 5,500 types of mustards! The massive collection includes mustards from all over the world – and that’s in addition to hundreds of kinds of mustard memorabilia, such as tins, jars, and more. But you can do more than look at the mustard; you can sample it, too, thanks to the museum’s tasting bar.
Address: 7477 Hubbard Ave, Middleton, WI 53562
6. World's Largest Talking Cow
Officially named Chatty Belle, this giant cow is 16 feet tall and 20 feet long. To put that into perspective, Chatty Belle is seven times the size of an average Holstein! And while there are several cow statues throughout the U.S. that are just as big, or bigger, Chatty Belle features a voice box, making her the world’s largest talking cow.
Address: 1201 E Division St, Neillsville, Wisconsin
7. World’s Largest Soup Kettle
Located in Laona, this gigantic soup kettle is seven feet in circumference and three feet deep. Perhaps even more impressive than the size is the fact that it’s actually used every August for a "soup-a-ganza." During the annual event, the public can bring their own bowl and enjoy some free soup.
Address: US-8, Laona, WI 54541
8. World’s Largest Corkscrew
The world’s largest corkscrew can fittingly be found in Hurley, which is known as "the tavern community." Even more fitting is the fact that the 24-foot-tall corkscrew is situated right outside a liquor store.
Address: 5619 W. US Highway 2, Hurley, WI
9. World’s Largest Badger
Standing at 40 feet, this colossal badger was originally part of Badger Country, a gas station and gift shop in Birnamwood, which closed in the late 1990s. Today, the badger sits outside a gentlemen’s club, so be careful if you’re bringing the kids to see this roadside oddity.
Address: N11004 US-45, Birnamwood, WI 54414
10. World’s Largest Talking Loon
Chatty Belle isn’t Wisconsin’s only talking giant. There’s also Claire d’Loon, which weighs 2,000 pounds and stands at 16 feet in height! And just like her cow counterpart, Claire d’Loon isn’t the biggest loon in the world, but she is the biggest talking loon.
