There are many ways to experience Wisconsin’s winter beauty, but one of the most unforgettable ways to enjoy the season is from a horse-drawn sleigh. In Northern Wisconsin, there’s a place that can make this holiday fantasy come true. It’s arguably the best sleigh ride in Wisconsin. Here’s what’s waiting for you at On Twin Lakes.
You’ll find this amazing sleigh ride experience in the Northern Wisconsin community of Birchwood. It’s a little community that was founded as a logging town – it calls itself the “Bluegill Capital of Wisconsin.”
Long before the scenic rides started here, Twin Lakes was a working dairy farm. It was founded more than 80 years ago as Hillcrest acres Dairy, and it was a successful farm for decades.
Over the years, the 400-acre farm started offering more than agricultural products. The owners now welcome the public onto the beautiful property throughout the year - it’s a popular wedding and event site. And in the winter, the sleigh rides begin.
The rides are magical. Sturdy teams of Haflinger horses pull the sleighs, and the rides travel through the woods and past frozen lakes and ponds. Birchwood gets a lot of snow every winter, but the horses have no problem making it down the trail.
The whole ride lasts about 90 minutes. The sleigh comes equipped with blankets and hot cocoa, but you’ll want to bundle up and wear your warmest clothes for this outing. Relax and enjoy the ride!
There are sleigh ride options for larger groups, as well as a “date” option for couples. Learn more about the sleigh rides on the On Twin Lakes website. Birchwood is a pretty amazing place – here’s a resort that will make you forget all your worries.
