Hubbard Avenue Diner in Middleton is well known for its spectacular pies. Their entire dessert case is reason enough to head here, honestly. From delicious monthly pie flavors to the most amazing Pi Day celebration, Hubbard Avenue is practically synonymous with pies. It’s one of the most beloved spots in Madison and has won numerous area awards. The down-home comfort food, amazing staff and killer dessert make this a place folks come back to again and again. They’re always coming up with new and amazing things, but they may have outdone themselves this time.
Hubbard Avenue Diner is a sort of iconic part of the Madison-area landscape which frankly has quite a few really good diners.
It's big and bright and airy and the right side of kitschy. Folks love the meatloaf and the menu here is all about stick-to-your-ribs comfort food.
You'll be tempted to forget about dessert with the big servings of food, but it would be to your own detriment to do so. At the very least, get your dessert to go.
Hubbard Avenue Diner says they're famous for pie and they're not joking. When they walk in the local parade, it's with a float featuring a giant slice of pie.
But while their vast menu of standard pies is amazing, they've just created something completely new and different that you're going to want to try.
Starting April 12, Hubbard Avenue Diner will be serving up taco pies. Not quite a hand pie, these delicious, mobile bits of pie are a total game-changer.
Starting out with four different flavors - apple, French silk, Key lime and a vegan cherry option, these little pockets of goodness will sell for $3.99 each. They can be ordered in the restaurant, but they'll also be taking special orders for boxes of the little palm-fuls of deliciousness.
Combining two of the very best foods we can think of seems rather ingenious, honestly, especially if you're a crust fan. And no details have been spared. There's a perfect ratio of crust to filling in each bite and there's whipped cream and shavings on top of the cream pies and streusel or crumbled crust on the fruit pies.
It's the perfect little bit of sweet to top off your meal and it's just so easy to see that these guys could become very popular at places like the Dane County Farmer's Market or summer festivals. At the very least, the next time you plan a little picnic, adding these guys to the basket seems like a no-brainer.
These little pockets of delicious, mobile, walking pie are sure to be a hit and every bit as delicious as all the other wonderful goodies coming out of the Hubbard Avenue Diner kitchen.
