This Delicious Restaurant In Wisconsin On A Rural Country Road Is A Hidden Culinary Gem

Here in Wisconsin, we are beyond blessed to have access to some of the freshest produce and proteins on which to dine. What makes many coastal folks overlook us as farmland and flyover country actually makes us one of the very best places to eat in the entire country. We put the idea of farm-to-table dining to shame because we don’t much have to make a point to use the resources nearby. But no place in Wisconsin is better about making use of our bountiful state than Farm Table in Amery. Part of a larger foundation that works to educate and create a fully sustainable system of farmers, soil, and food, Farm Table might be the biggest hidden gem restaurant in the entire state.
Amery is a town of fewer than 3,000 people northwest of Eau Claire just 20 or so miles from the state line and an hour from the Twin Cities.
But it's home to stunning, unique restaurant that strives to have 70% of their seasonal menus be locally sourced — and by local, they don't just mean "in-state" or within a couple hundred miles.
Every time you walk into Farm Table, you'll find a list of the farms used to source the products. And it's not just lip service. Everything here is a collaboration as the Farm Table Foundation works to create better soil and healthy foods and support rural communities.
Farm Table eliminates the middleman. This is literal farm to table as the Foundation collaborates with the farms and their food goes right into the menu that changes with the seasons.
And it shows in the food. The dishes here look like the kind of life-changing fare you'd find in bigger cities, both in the Midwest and further towards the coasts.
The restaurant is warm and welcoming, making you feel like you've been invited to the Farmhouse for a meal.
But the draw really is the food. It's filling and thoughtful. The menu is so well-planned, making the best of the seasonal bounty at their fingertips.
In the winter, the restaurant is closed on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, but with 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. hours on Saturday, a hearty and amazing breakfast should be on your to-do list.
They're open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, as well.
Though the main courses are all amazing, one of my favorite things here is all the bakery. From fresh bread and rolls to sweet bits, the bakery makes use of seasonal fruits and local grains to make some of the very best baked goods you'll ever taste.
Even if you can't grab a full meal, plan to stop for a dessert and fill yourself with the amazing pastries, cakes, and pies that come out of this beautiful kitchen.
Have you ever been lucky enough to eat at this small-town spot with big-time taste? Let us know about it in the comments!
