You may have heard that Middleton, Wisconsin is home to the National Mustard Museum. It’s a quirky little labor of love just outside Madison, but no one would be surprised to hear that you hadn’t yet made the pilgrimmage. But what if we told you that you could taste mustards from around the world – mustards with flavors you’d never even imagined before – and then buy and take home your favorites, you just might start planning a trip.
This odd and wonderful - and free - museum is located just outside of Madison and has more then 5,600 different types of mustard on display in the museum. There aren't quite that many available for tasting and purchase, but it might be close.
The folks here are incredibly friendly and incredibly dedicated to finding the perfect mustard for every palette. You'll wander among the shelves and pick out the ones that sound interesting and then head over to the tasting bar where they'll not only give you the sample, but then suggest alternative options based on your likes and dislikes.
You won't regret a trip here just to check out and taste the wide variety of mustards. Buy some for yourself, make a gift basket and walk out with some of the most unique stuff you just wouldn't be able to find anywhere else.
As expected, these folks make quite the big deal of out National Mustard Day - which is August 4, 2018. If you're planning a future trip, you could do worse than visiting on this sacred day for these folks.
