Slightly warmer temperatures have us longing for the warmth and bounty of summer. Of course, we all know that this warm-up is just a tease – a test of your mettle as a Wisconsinite. There’s probably at least one more snow in the cards and you’d be silly to put your winter coat away yet.
But winter and not-quite-spring are no reasons to forgo the amazing fresh produce and farm-fresh products that we have in abundance here in Wisconsin. There are great winter farmers markets all across the state, though the very best might be the one in Appleton.
Please note, the farmers market will not open for the 2020 season.
The indoor farmers market in Appleton takes place near where their stellar outdoor market is. It's at City Center Plaza, 10 E. College Ave. on Saturday from November through May, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
This large indoor farmers market features up to 50 vendors selling fresh fruits & vegetables, meats & dairy, breads & baked goods, specialty foods and handcrafted items. While you're downtown, you can visit the local restaurants, museums and shops that are on offer.
There's everything you could ever want at this awesome market. You'll find the winter vegetables and early spring stuff, plus canned fruits and veggies.
Basically, the winter farmers market is an awesome way to support the local community while stocking up on some awesome homemade and farm-grown goodies.
You'll find all kinds of delicious treats to fill your shelves. One of my favorite things is how accessible it is - WIC/EBT/SNAP Cards are accepted at many vendors. Look for signs at booths.
The City Center is a great spot for the indoor market. It's open and airy and you'll be able to see everything and get an idea of what you just have to have.
