Immerse Yourself In History At This 140-Year Old Wisconsin Inn Where Presidents Once Stayed

Tucked into a residential area out in Oconomowoc, west of Milwaukee, is a truly beautiful and unique inn you’ll definitely want to visit. Once a private home, the inn is in typical Southeast Wisconsin Cream City Brick and is a big, imposing three-story spot that was converted to an inn nearly 100 years ago.
Inn at Pine terrace was originally a grand cream city brick home built in 1879 as a private a summer residence for the two brothers, Peter and Henry Schuttler. The home was modeled on the design of a French nobleman’s castle near Vienna.
This stunning, three-story home located just west of Milwaukee in Lake Country has hosted such notables as Mark Twain, several American Presidents, and many of the country's beer brewing elite, including the Miller, Anheuser, Busch, and Pabst families, as well as railroad and industrial barons.
The original owners were wagon builders from Chicago who named their estate Mon Bijou which translates as My Jewel. Mon Bijou remained in the Schuttler family for more than 40 years
In the In the 1920s, the home was sold and began its life as the Pine Terrace Resort. The inn property consisted of 150+ acres stretching down to Fowler Lake and the home acted as the centerpiece of the popular lakefront resort.
In 1986, a huge renovation was undertaken to restore this gem to its former glory. The new owners invested $1.5 million to undertake the restoration.
The original carved woodwork, intricate floors and elegant door hinges remain in place in the parlor and library.
Now this glorious spot is wonderful mix of charming vintage and modern amenities that combine to make it a perfect spot to getaway for a few days.
Though it's just a short walk to charming downtown Oconomowoc, you might never want to actually leave the grounds of the Inn at Pine Terrace.
