With Wisconsin’s many amazing waterways, kayaks are a spectacular way to get out and enjoy the scenery and explore places you wouldn’t normally get to. But maybe you’ve never kayaked before. Or you have small children you’re not sure can handle the ride. Before you venture out on Lake Michigan or Lake Superior, you might want to ease into the idea of kayaking as a family. Door County Kayak has you covered. They have a short, family-friendly trip that is on calmer waters and is a great introduction for folks of all ages.
This tour is just about two hours long, the perfect length for getting acquainted with kayaking but not getting too tired.
According to their website, "This kayak tour is our most relaxing and family-friendly tour. Beginning on an Estuary that runs into Moonlight Bay called Reiboldt’s Creek, we will paddle our way into the Mud Lake Preserve. This beginner kayaker’s paradise is our protected, safe, and warm location to learn to kayak while watching for Bald Eagles, Blue Herons, Swans, Egrets, and more."
Here's what you can expect, says Door County Kayak: "No experience is necessary and Red Cross-trained instruction is provided. After an introductory lesson and a launch from Mud Lake Preserve contains a variety of habitats, including upland hardwood forest, lowland cedar-hemlock forest; Mature Beech, Hemlock, and Sugar Maple trees are found bordering the creek. In the Spring, wildflowers are outstanding on this location, with Hepaticas, Spring Beauties, Trilliums and Trout Lilies putting on a show from mid-April to the end of May."
You'll be up close and personal while learning how to balance the kayak and use the paddle. The calm waters are far different from the tumultuous lakes and help you feel comfortable.
There's no better way to explore some of the most beautiful spots of Wisconsin than from the water. Taking this tour could be the gateway to a whole new type of exploring and exercise for you and your family.
