The summer climate and the soil in Door County make it the perfect place to grow cherries. We’re pretty used to the idea of Door County cherries, but sometimes people forget that means we also get a beautiful cherry blossom season before the cherries are ripe and ready to pick. There are orchards up and down the peninsula, though those farther north tend to do best with growing cherries. As we head into Spring, you will want to plan a trip to go see the beautiful cherry blossoms in Wisconsin as they start to bloom.

Right now in late February, we're out of season for cherry blossoms, but before long spring will be in the air. The cherries tend to be ripe for picking between mid-July and mid-August, meaning prime blossom season is right around the corner.

What are some things to do in Door County Wisconsin?
Door County isn't all cherry trees and boring beautiful scenery - okay fine it is. But it is anything but boring. Here are a few things to do in Door County Wisconsin that we think you'll fall in love with just like we did:

  • Drive the Door County Coastal Byway: This beautiful 66-mile loop takes you through prime Door County scenery between highways 42 and 57. You'll pass by three state parks so you'll have plenty of opportunities to take a side hike, or maybe do a little camping to make it a lovely weekend getaway. When you get past Gills Rock you'll enter a gorgeous tree-lined curvy section that is incredibly photogenic. It is especially nice in the fall.
  • Visit the charming town of Sister Bay: When the weather is warm and the sun is out, this picture-perfect town is a little slice of heaven. With several fantastic beaches within 10 minutes of town, including the scenic Sister Bay Beach, you'll feel like you are on the coast instead of the middle of the Midwest. Pebble Beach is a fun spot if you love rock hunting or skipping rocks on the smooth surface of Lake Michigan. Of course, the town itself is a lovely welcoming community with plenty of shops, restaurants, and entertainment hot spots.
  • Hike the enchanting Bayshore Park Trail: This nice-sized 2.5-mile trail takes you through a beautiful wooded setting with interesting rock formations, stone steps, and scenic views. You'll also catch glimpses of Green Bay, which is always magical when the sun glints on its mirror-like surface. One of our favorite features of the trail is the small caves you'll find along the trail. Perhaps the most notable is Forest Vault - one of five such structures in Bay Shore Park.
