Most people are familiar with the Bayfield area for all the beauty that Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands have to offer, but there’s also plenty to see, explore and enjoy on the mainland. This pretty area is home to some of the coolest bridge trails you’ve ever seen. Big Ravine Forest Preserve has a short trail that gives you some stunning views and beautiful scenery.
Big Ravine Forest Preserve gives you access to the bottom of a big ravine that cuts a swath through the city.
Despite being basically right in the city of Bayfield, this trail will make you feel like you're deep in the forest and far, far away from anyone else.
There are benches all along this trail that invite you to stop and relax — and listen. You'll hear all kinds of birds and other animals chattering in the forest.
You never know what you'll encounter along this trail, which is part of what makes it so appealing. The stunning bridge and beautiful scenery are really only just part of the draw.
Big Ravine Forest Preserve is located on Sweeny Ave., Bayfield, WI 54814. Head uphill from the ferry boat access, past the schools building on 4th street, and you’ll see the trailhead access on your right.
