There’s nothing like finding a gem of a restaurant that you know is kind of on the down-low and not well-known to the masses. Finding a great spot in a small town is like hitting a jackpot, but it’s also a bit of a double-edged sword. You want that restaurant to flourish, but you also don’t want to have to share your new favorite spot and have to stand in line. Way up North in Cable there is a spot that locals won’t thank me for sharing with you. The Brick House Cafe is serving up some of the most interesting, delicious dishes you’ve ever imagined.
Way up in the northern part of the state, just outside the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Cable is a town of just 800 people. This sleepy little spot is home to weekend cabin-owners looking for like on the lake in the summer or life on the snowmobile in the winter. And tucked in town in a historic building you'll find The Brick House Cafe. This breakfast and lunch joint is serving up some of the most wonderful you'll find anywhere in Wisconsin.
This cafe serves up stellar breakfast and lunch and then delights folks by providing catering. It's the kind of place you'd expect to find in a trendy new neighborhood in a hip city, but instead it's tucked into the Wisconsin Northwoods. You'll find farm-fresh food combined in new and interesting ways to create plates unlike those you'd find anywhere else.
In 2005, chef Heather Ludzack, a fourth-generation Cable resident, took over the 1899 Brick House building and created a cafe that's delighting tastebuds and earning all kinds of admirers - the place has even been featured on Food Network.
Folks will drive from quite a ways away to enjoy a meal at this delightful spot that's open year-round. You'll find a great mix of locals and vacationers partaking in the great breakfasts and lunches that can be found here.
Of course, you can always just pop in for a coffee and pastry. You never know what the pastry masterminds will come up with, from sweet and savory donuts to fruity danishes and light, airy cream puffs. The folks in the kitchen here have a special touch with the sweet stuff and you'll always want to leave room for whatever treats they have dreamed up.
Brickhouse Cafe is a quaint, adorable and welcoming little spot that has spectacular outdoor seating for the warmer months. It's this fabulous mixture of your favorite corner coffee cafe and a high-end restaurant serving up unique, inventive, delicious and fresh food. I never knew those could be one in the same until I'd been here.
The menu is full of giant sandwiches, filling soups and awesome breakfast options, but you'll have a difficult time looking past the daily specials, which vary to include things like crepes, flat breads and more.
Forget all other nearby restaurants, you'll find yourself heading back here again and again to try all the things that catch your eye and make your stomach murmur.
Every plate here is elevated and the flavor of fresh, delicious ingredients come through. You won't believe the flavors and combinations these guys come up with.
The Brickhouse Cafe is truly a gem, creating some of the best food found anywhere in the state. But don't blame me if you have to wait for a table!
