We here in Wisconsin are pretty synonymous with beer. The sudsy stuff helped make us famous and we’ve got tons of breweries all across the state making enough of it to keep everyone happy. But beer isn’t the only reason to visit these spots – quite a few of them also have some of the tastiest grub you’ll ever get the opportunity to taste. So grab some friends and plan a night out that your tastebuds will thank you for!
1. Lakefront Brewery - Milwaukee
In my opinion, this place has the very best cheese curds I've ever had, hands down. There's a full menu of really delicious stuff as well as a smart, elevated selection of bar snack-type food. Plus, there's no more Wisconsin atmosphere than this place during the Friday Fish Fry.
Located at 1872 N Commerce St., Milwaukee, WI 53212.
2. Ale Asylum Brewery - Madison
It's a simple menu in that it's just apps, salads and sandwiches, but all of them are taken to the next level. They have the best ingredients, unique twists and are some of the best sandwiches you could ever have.
Located at 2002 Pankratz St., Madison, WI 53704.
3. Thirsty Pagan Brewing - Superior
I know this kind of looks like a salad, but this is actually a pizza. A melty, ooey-gooey, delicious pizza. I love that they have the beer pairing suggestions right on the menu - something a shocking number of breweries overlook. Located at 1615 Winter Street, Superior, WI 54880.
4. Potosi Brewing Co - Potosi
A few years back we did a beer-based road trip across the southern quarter of the state and Potosi was by far the standout, even against much bigger names and cities. Driving to the brewery feels like a big descent into a valley and then the lone thing on the road is this beacon. The Breweriana Museum is so cool and worth a visit on its own, but I wish I could return to this restaurant again and again. It's cozy and welcoming. Everything on the menu is like a hug on a plate. Just delicious and comforting in the best way. Find it at 209 S Main St., Potosi, WI 53820.
5. Northwoods Brewpub - Osseo
Any trip to this area really should include a stop here. The building is stunning and they've created an amazing outdoor space that makes you want to basically move in for the length of your vacation. The fried chicken meal barely fits on the plate and the stout burger is unforgettable. Located at 50819 West St., Osseo, WI 54758.
6. Brewery Creek Brewpub - Mineral Point
These folks have an inn and some cottages to rent and basically you could plan a weekend literally moving in with them, which sounds like a dream. There's so much history here. They can tell you where they've sourced most everything, and the menu is house-made from start to finish. Try a Cornish pastry to complete the experience. Located at 23 Commerce St., Mineral Point, WI 53565.
7. Karben 4 Brewery - Madison
Here you'll find another menu with great thought put into offering bar snacks that go beyond popcorn and peanuts. Karben 4 also has a great mac and cheese and a very good brunch.
Located at 3698 Kinsman Blvd., Madison, WI 53704.
8. Good City Brewing - Milwaukee
This amazing space is industrial but still welcoming and has one of the best rooftops in town. The menu has really great basics, but veers off into ramen and a vegetarian gnocchi (though you can have them use real bacon) that are totally off the wall for a brewery, but so good. Located at 2108 N Farwell Ave., Milwaukee, WI 53202.
9. Amery Ale Works - Amery
This spot in a converted barn is obviously focused on great, fresh ingredients. The menu is simple, but well-made. Located at 588 115th St., Amery, WI, 54001
10. Stone Arch Brewpub - Appleton
Things on this menu you won't find anywhere else: wild boar meatballs, alligator bites, elk pastrami and duck wontons. This isn't bar food - it's so much better. It's the most unique brewery menu I've ever seen, and that's what makes it a must-stop. Located at 1004 S Olde Oneida St., Appleton, WI 54915.
11. K Point Brewing - Eau Claire
The food here comes from the attached coffee shop/deli called Coffee Grounds. The fish fry is worth the trip alone. Located at 4212 Southtowne Dr., Eau Claire, WI 54701.
12. Pigeon River Brewing Co - Marion
Let me tell you about their beer-infused pizza crust. Head here for wing night on Wednesday, pizza night on Thursday and an extensive fish fry on Friday. Located at 1103 N Main St., Marion, WI 54950.
13. Red Eye Brewing Co - Wausau
This is another place that can tell you where everything is sourced from. The Henny Penny with cranberry BBQ sauce is a highlight, and so are the roasted fingerling potatoes as a side. Located at 612 Washington St., Wausau, WI 54403.
