Spring Green is one of the very best towns in the state. There’s so much to do and see and eat in this small town. One of the hidden gems is Freddy Valentine’s, a newer restaurant on the scene that takes advantage of a totally amazing and unique location to present a one-of-a-kind meal. Located in a 100-year-old building in a place that used to be a bank, this lovingly restored spot utilizes all the details of its former life to make for a meal you’ll never forget.
Please note, Freddy Valentine’s is no longer in business.
Freddy V's is an amazing bit of history that just happens to serve up one of the best meals in town. The building is on the National HIstoric Register and there's just so much to see and take in, from the Neo-classical Revival style to the smooth-surfaced terra cotta pottery tile that gives the outside the appearance of granite.
According to their website, "The building is celebrating its 103rd birthday, built in 1915, the building is a one of kind combination of Neo-classical Revival exterior with Terracotta pillars and snarling lion heads, a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired interior with coffered ceilings, the original safe door and a finely crafted new bar made with much of the re purposed original early 20th century marble, wood and iron work from the original teller wall."
The rest of the restaurant is first-come, first-served and in the summer it's quite popular. But while you're waiting, make sure to really study the interior - a lot of what makes this place so amazing is in the details. There are bits of the old bank reused in all kinds of interesting manners all around you.
I'm just so in love with how the owners updated the building while keeping so many of the bits and pieces that made it special. The whole place is just dripping with character.
And while the building itself would be reason enough to go here, be assured the food stands up to the rest of the restaurant's reputation. It's a fresh-made menu highlighting local ingredients and Wisconsin takes on British pub fare. Freddy V's is the perfect place for a filling meal after a long day exploring the many wonderful parts of Spring Green.
