There aren’t many candy shops brimming with as much history as sweets. However, that’s exactly what you’ll find at Uncle Tom’s Candy Shop. Not only is the sweet shop located in an old schoolhouse, but it’s filled with memorabilia, artifacts, and lots of candy, of course. Take a look:
A small-town gem, Uncle Tom’s Candy Shop is a unique candy store that’s located off-the-beaten-path in Ellison Bay.
It may look like a schoolhouse from the outside and that’s because it was. The building that now houses the candy shop served as Newport School from 1911 until the 1950s.
The building was transformed into Uncle Tom’s Candy Store back in 1960 and has been in business ever since — despite ownership changing a couple of times.
In addition to items from the building’s years as a schoolhouse, Uncle Tom’s is brimming with a variety of memorabilia, vintage photos, and 20th-century artifacts.
Uncle Tom’s is open 7 days a week May through October — at which time, the hours are: Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. November through April, it’s open Sunday through Friday with varying hours, so according to the store’s Facebook, you should call before your visit.
