Milwaukee has always been a city flavored by immigrants and a charming city cafe will transport you into the European lowlands. Cafe Benelux is a place that serves up Wisconsin’s best flavors with a European twist. The state’s beloved Sunday morning beverage – the Bloody Mary – is a thing of beauty at Benelux and it’s just the reason you need to get out of bed on a sleepy Sunday. Here’s what’s waiting for you at the bar at Benelux – one of the best Bloody Marys in Wisconsin.
You’ll find Benelux tucked into Milwaukee’s vibrant Third Ward district, just a (ahem) beignet-throw away from Wisconsin Highway 794.
If you haven’t guessed, the cafe’s name is a play on its European roots (Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg). When you step inside, you’ll feel like you’ve somehow been transported overseas.
Actually, there are six choices. The six Cafe Benelux Bloody Marys are works of art – order the “Milwaukeen” if you would like bacon and a cheese curd included. Feeling Euro? Go for the “Lux,” which includes herbs de provence-infused prairie vodka, Luxembourg mustard, bleu cheese, and stuffed olives.
Don’t forget a chaser: there’s an expansive beer list to peruse. And the food menu? If you have an appetite after the garnishes, go for the short rib fajita hash. It’s even better than it sounds!
