A sight to be seen, Horicon Marsh is the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the US. But it has more than just its impressive size going for it. It’s also a migratory stop for Canada geese and is home to the largest nesting population of redhead ducks east of the Mississippi.

This park spans 1,476 acres – every last inch of which is filled with magnificence! First, there’s Big Manitou Falls, which, at 165 feet, is the state’s tallest waterfall. Other significant sights include a 300-foot lakeside beach and Little Manitou Falls – the 31-foot twin of Big Manitou Falls.

At 1,565 feet, St. Peter’s Dome offers seemingly never-ending views of the surrounding Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Along the 4.2-mile hike to the dome, you’ll find a detour to another of the natural area’s perks – Morgan Falls, a 70-foot waterfall that cascades over several granite ledges.
