There are certain places that simply defy explanation. Gravity Hill in Wisconsin is one of them. The place just doesn’t make sense; it doesn’t seem probable or even possible. How can up be down and down be up? Welcome to Gravity Hill, a rural road in Wisconsin where not everything is as it seems. Read on to find out what makes this road more than a little creepy.
You'll find Wisconsin's Gravity Hill on an empty and remote hill near Shullsburg. With a population of just 1,200, Shullsburg is one of the smallest towns in the state. It's also one of the oldest; it was founded by lead miners in the 1820s, long before Wisconsin was even a state.
From its earliest days, there was something a little mystical happening near this town, out on County Highway U. Supposedly, this is a place where the laws of gravity don’t apply.
Put your car in neutral, hang onto the wheel and hold on to your hat. Your car will start rolling up hill! Before you know it, you’ll be traveling pretty quickly so keep a foot on the brake.
So how can this be? Is the ghost of one of those old miners pushing on your bumper? Is there some sort of weird magnetic force here – maybe that’s what caused the miners to start digging this place up?
Those reasons would make a better story, but the hill is an optical illusion – the terrain rises up more than the hill drops, so it appears you’re going uphill when you’re actually going down!
To find Gravity Hill, his head into the heart of Shullsburg and take County Highway U south out of town. Be careful on the hill! If you love weird and creepy destinations, pay a visit to this haunted bridge – but only if you dare!
