On one day each August, a city in Wisconsin shuts down its streets and paints the town yellow. Middleton is home to the one-of-a-kind National Mustard Museum, and the city celebrates a national holiday you might not have heard of – National Mustard Day. It’s a fun Wisconsin festival that’s like no other on Earth, and you should plan to attend. Here’s why.
Middleton has been the heart of the mustard world since 2009, when the National Mustard Museum moved to town.
It was previously located in nearby Mount Horeb, and it’s a shrine that celebrates all things mustard and mustard-related.
The museum is a big attraction in its own right, displaying thousands of mustards from all over the world and detailing the history of this favorite condiment.
There’s plenty of great food on hand, including brats and hot dogs – just don’t even think about using ketchup! You might even find something a little unusual to sample, like mustard ice cream.
National Mustard Day takes place in Middleton on the first Saturday of August each year, rain or shine. Learn more about this fun event on the National Mustard Day website. While you’re in Middleton, don’t eat too many hot dogs. You’ll want to save plenty of room for the most epic dessert selection in Wisconsin.
