No one makes a better sandwich than a Wisconsin grandma. Really. But if you can’t get your grandma to make you a sandwich, here are some of Wisconsin’s best sandwich joints that you should visit:
1. Want to know why the Picnic Basket (Wauwatosa) keeps getting voted the best sandwich shop? Because they stuff as much bacon as they can into two pieces of bread.
2. Chubby's Cheesesteaks (Milwaukee). We perfected what you guys started in Philly by adding a TON of our Wisconsin cheese on top.
3. Crostini Sandwiches (Madison) makes some great meaty sandwiches but also some awesome veggie paninis like the one posted here.
4. Erbert & Gerbert's (or Erbs and Gerbs as the locals call it) is a chain, but they make some of the best sandwiches in Wisconsin. Also this photo with their "cosmo" sandwich is hilarious.
5. Kroll's West (Green Bay) may be best known for their butter burgers, but they have some fabulous sandwiches. Pictured here: the pulled pork sandwich. Their prime rib sandwich was featured on Adam Richman's "Best Sandwich in America" show. Maybe if Adam kept eating Kroll's, he wouldn't have become such a grouch!
6. The Crimson Cafe (Rhinelander) really knows how to make a quality sandwich.
7. This Reuben from Jake's Deli (Milwaukee) is making me drool!
8. This grilled cheese from Paninoteca (Appleton) is absolutely unreal!
9. Not By Bread Alone (Green Bay) makes some delicious bread, but they also put together some delicious sandwiches.
10. Tenuta's Delicatessen and Liquors (Kenosha) is so much more than a sandwich shop. But if you get a sandwich, you HAVE to get the muffo-lotta (pictured here).
Whether you’re into simple or fancy sandwiches, Wisconsin has them all.
