The story of the Old Rittenhouse Inn begins in the 1890s. The Queen Anne Victorian home was built in summer of 1890 in Bayfield as a vacation residence. It’s a spectacular hone, built from native Lake Superior brownstone, creamery brick and shingles. It’s a true “painted lady” with seven different hues of paint.
In 1973 the grand old home became Wisconsin’s first bed & breakfast and today the current owners still welcome guests to the inn, as well as to the home’s dining establishment.
The rooms on the home’s main floor originally served as the kitchen, formal parlor, family room and dining room – the space has been transformed to the Landmark Restaurant. It serves breakfast and dinner to houseguests and the public.
The breakfast is wonderful – choose form options like pancakes with fresh local berries or a quiche with spinach and caramelized onions. Everything here is made in house!
The restaurant is also a great place for dinner. The menu changes weekly based on seasonality and availability of locally raised ingredients and the freshest produce. You can enjoy a luxurious five-course meal that includes a choice of soup, salad, sorbet, entrée, and a dessert. You’ll leave the restaurant very satisfied!
Hours at the Landmark Restaurant vary seasonally. To learn more about this special inn and restaurant, visit the official website. Once you’ve experienced a fine meal at The Landmark, here are some more wonderful and iconic Wisconsin restaurants you’ll want to sample.
