Is there really a more delicious dessert than pie? Pie rules. And it’s no secret that Wisconsin makes some of the best pies around. Now, I know what you’re thinking–“my grandma made way better pies than any place that sells them.” But we can’t all eat at your grandma’s house, can we? So we have to settle for one of these AMAZING Wisconsin pie distributors.
1. Stockholm Pie and General Store
You might just get Stockholm syndrome from this pie shop because they will hold you captive and you will loooove it. Obviously, they are located in Stockholm, Wisconsin. They have all sorts of pies to offer you...from fruits to nuts to cream pies. But you may really fall in love with their apple pie. It's made from Braeburn apples. The apples are still a little crisp and the sweetness is just right.
2. Boomerang Bakery
Located in Monroe, Wisconsin, Boomerang bakery is going to blow your mind. From the name, you can gather that they sell more than pies. But they are famous for pies. Pies are crafted and made to order. So if you're thinking "pie or cake?" you might not want to choose.
3. Market Street Diner and Bakery
In Sun Prairie, you can head down to this 1940s style diner. They have a great breakfast. But a lot of people come here just for the dessert--specifically, PIE. They've got your classics like apple and cherry. But they also make a pretty good key lime.
4. Norske Nook Restaurants and Bakery
Only in Wisconsin will you find such a following around Norwegian food. But even if you aren't digging the lutefisk (look it up), you are going to want to come here for the pies. They just keep winning award after award for these pies. These guys have a few locations, including Osseo. But if you can't make it, they actually sell a recipe book for pies and some other stuff.
5. Crystal Cafe of Iola
Crystal Cafe of Iola promises honest to goodness home cooking from scratch. And they definitely deliver on that promise. But I don't know too many home cooks who can make a pie like they do. These pie recipes are 50+ years old, still made the same way. There's just something about this crust. All ingredients are fresh--no cans allowed!
6. OJ's Midtown
In Gillett, OJ's Midtown has been making hearty, quality, simple Wisconsin fare since 1977. And guess what? They make some darn good pies, too. They have multiple pies boxed to go each day, or you can place an order. In addition, they have 2 new pies EACH MONTH. You'll just have to eat there every month to taste them all.
7. Humble
In Madison, Humble is putting out both sweet AND savory pies. The flavors of any of these pies are complex and sophisticated. They also distinguish themselves because they use fresh ingredients from local family farms. The menu shifts seasonally, so get down there today to see what they have to offer.
8. Wayne's Family Restaurant
In Oconto, Wayne's Family Restaurant has been in business since 1983. And since they opened, they have been famous for their pies. These pies are award-winning, having been featured at the National Pie Championships. There are a wide variety of pies being sold, and they are always coming up with new flavors. So head down to Wayne's and make sure you don't fill up before you get a piece of pie. Or at least get a slice to go.
