There’s no doubt that the summer strawberries you can get in Wisconsin bear little resemblance to those you might buy in the grocery store in November. The summer berries are sublime: sweet, juicy, and literally bursting with flavor. While the berries you can find at a farmers’ market are pretty incredible, for the very freshest berries, you’ll want to pick them yourself. Thompson Strawberry Farm is the place in Wisconsin to find some of the best. Here’s what’s waiting for you in the farm’s lush fields.
The farm was founded more than 50 years ago in the Kenosha County community of Bristol. It’s an easy drive from places like Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha – it’s also a nice outing if you’re spending the weekend in the Lake Geneva area.
The way the farm works is you pay for berries by the basket – for a small price, you get to fill it up with some off the best berries you’ve ever tasted!
You can park right out by the field – a farm employee will show you where to park and guide you through the process. They have baskets you can use – you can keep them to bring the berries home.
You might notice the berries look a little different than the berries you by in the store – they are smaller. The reason: the are grown for flavor, not size.
While the strawberry season passes quickly, there’s much more to the farm than berries. It also has sunflowers, other flower varieties, raspberries, pumpkins, and an adventure farm. Families always have a great time at this farm!
