You can find great ice cream in any state, but for some of the freshest and creamiest, you’ll want to head to the Dairy State. Specifically, you’ll want to head to Babcock Dairy Store, an ice cream spot that’s kept generations of University of Wisconsin students and their families every well fed. It’s a place that’s full of memories and great ice cream – here’s what you need to know.
Babcock Dairy Store in Wisconsin has a very long history. It began more than 70 years ago and it’s named after Stephen Moulton Babcock, a University of Wisconsin researcher in the department of Agricultural Chemistry. He was the inventor of the first reliable butterfat content milk test.
Today the Dairy Store and its associated plant supports the University of Wisconsin's Food Science Department’s mission of research, teaching, and outreach.
For students, the Babcock Dairy Plant provides hands-on operational education, experience, and research; and for the rest of us, this dairy produces some really great ice cream!
The store usually has 22 flavors in stock so you have a lot of really great options. Enjoy an ice cream treat right at the store or take a pint, half-gallon or a three-gallon tub on the road with you.
For more information on the Babcock Dairy Store, location details, and the current hours of operation, visit the store’s website. If you love discovering Wisconsin’s best ice cream, here’s a super sweet road trip you’ll definitely want to take.
