In the heart of Wisconsin, the city of Wisconsin Rapids has all the things that make the Midwest great: outdoor recreation, natural beauty, vibrant agriculture, and small-town charm. The city is centrally located, so it can be reached with relative ease from anywhere in Wisconsin. It’s a wonderful place for an escape when you need a quintessential shot of the Badger State. Here’s what’s waiting for you in the charming small town of Wisconsin Rapids:
You’ll find Wisconsin Rapids, pop. 18,000, in central Wisconsin. It’s less than two hours from Madison or Eau Claire, or less than three hours from Milwaukee.
The town grew up along the Wisconsin River and was first settled by Europeans in the 1830s. Today the river is popular with anglers, paddlers, boaters, and dogs!
The area’s land and water resources fueled the city’s growth. A paper making industry has long boomed here and Wisconsin Rapids is the heart of cranberry country. From late September to late October, the area explodes with color. Marsh tours are available, too.
The downtown has a nice selection of shops and restaurants serving the Wisconsin classics. Enjoy some prime rib, a classic fish fry, or an order of cheese curds. If you’re lucky, you may even see the Cranberry Guy out on the town!
