There’s a short trail in Wisconsin that offers a big payoff. The Ellison Bluff Loop in Liberty Grove is barely over a mile long, but wow, what a view. The first time I peeked down from this overlook as a kid, I was worried I’d fall off the edge. I stayed safely on the top, and years later, the dizzying view keeps me coming back. It’s also a place to experience nature. Over the years I’ve taken in the northern lights and also encountered a mother fox and her kits.
